KTH Royal Institute of Technology will participate in three newly funded Swedish national research schools for teacher educators, two focused on AI in education and one on science and technology education, as part of a government-backed initiative to strengthen the research base of teacher education and future skills.
Key points
KTH joins GRAITE, a graduate school involving nine Swedish universities, to study how AI is reshaping teacher education and the teaching profession, with an emphasis on helping teacher educators understand, use and critically evaluate AI while preparing future teachers for an AI-shaped society.
A second research school, LärA-AI, led in collaboration with Uppsala University and the University of Gävle, will examine how generative AI impacts teachers’ working conditions, responsibilities and competence needs in an already demanding work environment.
The third research school, coordinated by Linköping University with KTH as a key partner, builds on the FontD initiative to strengthen research-informed teacher education in science and technology from preschool to upper secondary, supporting KTH’s ambition to lead STEM education development nationally and contribute to Sweden’s STEM agenda.
