Vice-Chancellor Malin Broberg has launched a long-term reorganisation process to move the university’s collaborative national units from central management into different faculties to create what is described as a more appropriate organisational structure.
Directors such as Tomas Berglund of Wexsus welcome the discussion but express concern about protecting the units’ identity, integrity, brands and favourable financial conditions if they are integrated into faculty structures that focus on teaching and research.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Carina Mallard is developing proposals for where each unit will be placed, stressing that university management should focus on strategic issues while ensuring that missions remain intact for national units such as Wexsus, the Swedish Institute for the Marine Environment, Nordicom, the Swedish National Data Service and others hosted by the university.
